This is Home is a series of 16 interviews, watercolor paintings and a solo exhibition by architect|artist Jane Sloss. The series will show at Firecat Projects, in Chicago, in December of 2015. Each of the 16 watercolor paintings in the series represents an interview with and home of one Chicago resident. Having moved frequently in childhood and early adulthood, the artist is interested in exploring the ethereal idea of home (what feels like home) and how that related to a physical place. The interviews with residents explore the emotions that are evoked by our homes, the comfort we derive from home, the special objects we keep in our homes, and the way we talk about our homes. The paintings attempt to capture some aspect of that which was gathered through the interviews, sharing a glimpse of the homes and how their residents feel about them. The artist will also be sharing a portion of those audio interviews on her website and at the exhibit.
